BOTANICAL RELIEF PRINT ON CORK WITH PLASTIC FREE INKS, BRASS NAILS AND RECYCLED ELEMENTS

Research has shown that connecting with nature can lower levels of poor mental health while improving feelings of calmness, joy, and creativity. With so many of Earth's flora and fauna specimens declining, and our modern-day lifestyles increasingly separating us from nature, we are experiencing an epidemic of mental health issues, habitat loss, and single-use plastics pollution.

Working as an Arts Educator opened my eyes to a disheartening truth: almost all readily accessible art materials contain plastics. I realised that the materials I was encouraging the next generation to use to celebrate the world around us, were contributing to environmental harm. Overwhelmed by climate anxiety, I decided to take action — to reconnect with nature and be the positive change I wanted to see. I began researching plastic-free materials and processes, took up community litter picking, and introduced mindful practices into my daily life.

By blending printed flora with sustainable material combinations, such as cork a fully renewable material, recycled papers and brass embellishments, Abstract Constellations fosters a dialogue about humanity’s coexistence with nature, encouraging a deeper understanding and appreciation of our shared environment by showcasing flora's intricate beauty, and the delicate balance between the man-made and the natural.
